★ ‘The Exile’ by T.C. Gotch (1930)

'The Exile' by Thomas Cooper Gotch (1930)

★ I absolutely love this stunning painting from 1930, entitled ‘The Exile’, by Thomas Cooper Gotch. The colours are so vivid, and such an unusual combination – crimson, French pink and gold – it really is incredibly striking. The gold in particular does a lot for this colour palette; still a warm tone, but it provides a contrast. You know, a lot of people say that red and pink clash, but pictures like this convince me otherwise. I’ve always found the idea that a red and pink colour scheme is a no-no to be a little strange, considering how incredibly close to each other on the colour wheel they are. After all, blue and purple are similarly spaced, but I’m sure no-one would say they clash…

Much love,
