★ When I’m writing for this blog, I spend a lot of time looking through PR shots released by companies – not only to see if someone’s created a particularly gorgeous collection I’d like to feature, but to look for any overarching trends that span the entire season. There are always the main trends of course, since that’s the very nature of fashion – but sometimes you’ll find what I like to think of a ‘hybrid trend’. It’s when different designers or companies have taken elements from several different trends and kind of meshed them together, creating a new look that is still beautifully coherent within itself. And I’ve got one of those to show you now…
It’s probably best described as Modern Deco Luxe, and I particularly love it since it incorporates elements of two of this season’s swankiest decor trends – warm metals, and mixed materials. Essentially, it can be summed up as Art Deco luxury, retro chic (you know I love a bit of vintage!), with a gorgeously modern twist. Think richly upholstered seating covered in velvet and finished in brass studs; statement light fittings in contemporary styles; matte gold, copper and chromium accents; rich mahogany and walnut wood finishes; all in a beautifully sophisticated muted colour palette. It’s all very glam, very Jean Harlow, and just perfect for a swanky New York penthouse apartment on Fifth Avenue.
