★ 1885 Women’s Embroidered Boots

Women's Embroidered Boots, 1885

★ I love this exquisitely embroidered pair of women’s boots – the flowers are so delicate, and the soft and subtle colours stand out so wonderfully against the black! Currently in the collections of LACMA, they’re made of fine silk, linen, kid leather and suede, and they were created by F. Pinet, in Paris, c.1885. I’m often amazed at the level of detail in Victorian clothing and accessories, even moreso when it comes to items like these boots. Skirts were still very decidedly floor length when these were made, so bar the odd glimpse while walking, they wouldn’t even be seen! If I had these beauties I certainly wouldn’t be hiding them away!

Much love,
